Penguin, 1980. Subtitled “The Biography of Joe Orton,”  this was first published by Allen Lane in 1978. 18cm by 11cm, 351 pages. Lahr describes Orton’s life from birth in Leicester on 1st January 1933 to his death at the hands of long-time partner, Kenneth Halliwell on 9th August 1967 via literary success, Edna Welthorpe (Mrs) and holidays in Morocco with Kenneth “Carry On” Williams. Author John Lahr (son of Wizard of Oz’s Cowardly Lion, fact fans) co-wrote the screenplay of 1987 film Prick Up Your Ears with Alan Bennett. The film was directed by Stephen Frears and starred Gary Oldman as Orton and Alfred Molina as Halliwell. Condition: Wear and creasing to spine and cover ends plus pages uniformly browned with age.
