I used to write songs with a musician called David. He came up with the music and and I wrote the words. The lyrics from one of our songs, Space Precinct popped into my head today. The wistful vibe seems apt for New Year’s Day. It was written in 1998.

She knew she had a calling,
She said to me, “Can you hear it calling?”
She said, “I’ve reached that certain age,
I haven’t yet disgraced my family name,
I’ve got to leave this job and rebel.”
I handed her the post and smiled.
I only knew her for a while.

She sailed away.
I glued myself to my desk
Look at me! Look at me!

She knew she had a calling.
She always felt held back by temping.
She said, “Time means so much more than money.
The secret of success is concentrating on your aims.”

She sailed away.
I glued myself to my desk
Look at me! Look at me!

She knew she had a calling.
She always felt held back by temping.
She said, “Time means so much more than money.
The secret of success is concentrating
On your dreams, stuff the job.”

She sailed away.
I glued myself to my desk
Look at me! Look at me!
